one of these dances

One of these dances
will be my last.

What will I do then?

The dances that follow
can push me on my way
   can keep me dancing here—

can stretch me fibrous and wet
from hereever to thereever

birth sounds
dying sounds

and dance musics between

one of these musics
will be my last—

What  music then!

Trilobite Sunrise

workshopping sketches towards a poem

trilobite sunrise: roll and fly
november 1, ’12, on the new year

how the day begins to start in darkness
the dung beetle SCARAB in Egypt
rolls the sun across the sky as
beetles roll the dung

round and round

what was old is new again

on the new year i argue with
a friend whether regeneration is in the
dark fallowing worm churning compost
(yes)

rather than in the spring: the paradox of
point in time naming in a cycle process

beetle wings: how we can rise and fly in the velvet morning
before sunrise

before sunrise: roll and fly, churn and turn
before sunrise: roll and fly, churn and turn
renewal

in the dark time now, the new time of the wheel turning year
we roll the darkness as dung beetles
even beneath skygod culture overlay, what is true is true
everything starts in regenerative darkness
before light was rolled, we remember the earlier practice
we roll darkness, carrying morning before morning

before sunrise: roll and fly, churn and turn
before sunrise: roll and fly, churn and turn
renewal

IMUNURI Prompt: Line Drawing

by Lauren Ari
This week, try this process for creative writing.

First, start in a quiet space. Give yourself time free of distractions. You might meditate or ruminate for a little while about what questions or stories or content is feeling energized for you.

When you touch pen or pencil to paper, make a drawing instead of writing with words. Allow the drawing to happen. You might scribble fast or trail out a line slowly. You might make shapes or lines or dots. It could be abstract or figurative. The main this is: allow.

When the drawing feels finished, write your words on the same piece of paper, over the drawing, or around it, coordinating with the picture or clashing with it.

If possible, scan or photograph the poem for your post; otherwise transcribe and post the poem.
