Now and Then
a flaming orange glow;
next to the hardest working
water wheel in West Berkeley;
rises from a green pine
scented candle
a demented cat chases her tail
inside a blue laundry basket
raising a racket
down
town
the electric streetcar stopped running
a long time ago
Nice turn! I like the realization at the end that the preceding lines reflect the past--the waterwheel active, not just a quaint decoration, the candle as a standard light source... Anyway, I very much enjoy the vivid portrayal in this poem.
