body/earth 1 - hands

the palm is an orchid
delicate, nourished by thick, resplendent air
a dancer offering careful arcs of growth and grace

the palm is a chrysanthemum
a gardener nourished by contact with dung
radiant, healing with its vibrancy

the palm is sea kelp
a relationship of green ropes
connecting murky depths to water sun

the palm is the center of the earth:
we hold pulsing layers
and magma blood, source of rotating life
in our grip

the palm is a poem
palimpsest of meaningful lines
holding wholeness

Breaking things

No one can blame you
when you break curfew
& step outside.

Nothing to say
when you break your fast
& cast hunger aside.

Less governed & brethren
let’s not mind
when governors & clergy toe the line
to which only theirs is tied.

No one can blame you
when you break curfew
& step outside.

Nothing to lay down
when laws & odds
have no chance.

Nothing to do
when the only crowned
are fungi networks
tangled through & through.

Nothing to say
when you break your fast
& cast hunger aside.

No one can blame you
when you break curfew
& step outside.

Accept Except

Even one plus one
can surprise you
yielding a some-
thing that's true
that's not two.

If you’re certain,
run against your grain.
Closed curtains
are full of pinholes;
the bricks of the world
have hollow backs.
Chance tearing
the fabric.

If you are interested
in beating the odds,
embrace them.
To be specific:
nothing’s odd
that’s held close,
and nothing’s true
that isn’t false.

Where you’re stuck,
take leave, and what
you can’t believe in,
believe.

IMUNURI Prompt: Exception to the Rule

Write a poem about a/the/you as the/
exception to the rule.

A plea, or a plea bargain. A plaidoyer, or a rant.
Let's hear it all, get on your termagant or curmudgeon
and show some teeth

and/or get into long philosophical poetry about what are the exact terms, conditions, or ethics of when to grant exceptions,
and or why are there rules anyway. anarchistic sentiment is ok for this prompt as well, whatever flows your verse...

Labels: poem, exception, [poet's moniker]
